it’s been a while since i shot my last time lapse clip and i am happy to finally present the candle clip that i intended to shoot for a very long time:
the clip consists of 3100 jpgs combined using virtualdub and exported as an xvid avi file. it runs at 36 frames per second with the pictures being taken each one second apart.
the equipment I used was:
canon eos 5d mkii @ iso 100
tokina at-x pro 100 f/2.8 @ f/8.0
tc-80n3 timer remote @ 1second intervals
manfrotto tripod & head
the pictures were taken in jpg form to save space, then imported to lightroom, resized to 1280×853 and then exported. virtualdub was used to merge the jpg files into a video clip with the nine inch nails song “36 ghosts iv” as atmospheric background.
total working time (shooting and post processing): about 3 hours.
i might produce a full hd version of the clip later down the line and release it via bittorrent.
this is one of my earlier tutorials i pulled off my old website.
it doesn’t show the lightroom ui that i used to have on the pictures with “making of: fade” but it shouldn’t be too hard to follow.
as of yesterday i have a new computer and today i started to move as much of my stuff as possible from the old machine to the new one.
here is how it turned out.
i truly believe that by giving away knowledge of a particular item of interest will increase the overall value of the items that you will get back in the end.
what do i mean by that?
i made a picture that i called “fade” – people started asking about how i did that. the process is really simple, yet the outcome makes you look.
seems like it’s time for a making of… (more…)
a lot of things have happened in the past few days/weeks:
o) my old car broke down and was too expensive to get it going again – i have a new one now, a 1997 renault clio rn.
o) the plans about moving out of my parents attic are finally evolving – a few blocks away is a flat that i will be moving into soon
photography-wise there weren’t any major happenings because of either bad weather or bad timing. what i have done though is a small guide to the use of a few basic features of adobe lightroom to boost the look of your pictures. you remember the picture with the snail from the welcome screen? well: here is how i did that (link missing)
since i’ve always been jumping around between different operating systems i was happy to find out, that most of the tools i kept using over the last couple of years not only run on windows and linux, but also on macosx!
by now i’ve collected and installed most (if not all) of the tools i need to get around with the system and don’t have to learn new tricks. i know this might be a limitation, but i rather work with something that has proven to be useful to me than getting to know the new stuff instead of creating and using it.
i’ve just reworked the equipment list and played around with adobe lightroom’s web export function. the export is pretty sleek but it can’t do as much as i would have expected.
this basically means that the page you are looking at is a patchwork between the iweb automation and the adobe lightroom web automation which should work nicely when i have come up with a quick way of doing things.
maybe i should bring you guys up to speed.
i’ve abandoned my old webspace at 8ung.at and will move the old blog from there to this website in a couple of days. however the layout won’t change, i’ll just copy/paste all the old stuff. well, anyway you will see.
as of now i am not planning on adding a podcast like video or radio-style but i might add videos to the page a little later.
also i have to figure out how much space 100mb on a webserver really are – like how much picture galleries i can add until the whole thing explodes.
