this is the second piece of the non-entity set. dried up leafs, flowers and plants have their own unique beauty and i feel like i should keep exploring in this direction.
the picture was heavily edited in adobe lightroom to the the color-mood right.
it’s been a while since i shot my last time lapse clip and i am happy to finally present the candle clip that i intended to shoot for a very long time:
the clip consists of 3100 jpgs combined using virtualdub and exported as an xvid avi file. it runs at 36 frames per second with the pictures being taken each one second apart.
the equipment I used was:
canon eos 5d mkii @ iso 100
tokina at-x pro 100 f/2.8 @ f/8.0
tc-80n3 timer remote @ 1second intervals
manfrotto tripod & head
the pictures were taken in jpg form to save space, then imported to lightroom, resized to 1280×853 and then exported. virtualdub was used to merge the jpg files into a video clip with the nine inch nails song “36 ghosts iv” as atmospheric background.
total working time (shooting and post processing): about 3 hours.
i might produce a full hd version of the clip later down the line and release it via bittorrent.
completely soaked, frozen to the bones, a cup of coca cola and the last cigarette from the pack in my hands, pouring rain, the crowd decimated to the last few fans who withstand what nature throws at them.
all of them singing to “hurt”.
a picture to the song “non-entity” by nine inch nails, heavily inspired by the artwork of “the fragile”. major manipulations in adobe lightroom, minor corrections in the gimp.
get the wallpapers in 1920×1200 and 1440×900 here.
trent reznor, head of nine inch nails, just released a tour sampler including material from janes addiction, street sweeper and some previously unreleased material from nine inch nails.
the download is completely free – if you want, you can download the sampler directly from http://www.ninja2009.com by posting your email adress or head over to your favourite torrent search engine (i recommend the pirate bay) and get the album legally(!) from there.
trent reznor announced today that “it’s time to make nin disappear for a while”.
while this might just mean a break in terms of bringing out new material and no longer touring, this hit me harder than i actually thought.
see, nine inch nails has been in my ears and in my head from when first i stumbled across them somewhere in the nineties. and they have been with me ever since.
somehow this feels like saying goodbye to a very good friend.
time to listen to the bootleg recordings of the shows i’ve been to, and giving a nod to the little boy that used to scream loud enough that it could be heard on the recording. thoroughly preserved and nicely contained in an mp3 file. something i might play to my kids someday saying: “you hear that? when i was your age, i was there. that boy screaming – that was me.”
with fingernails painted, dressed in black, a cigarette in hand, yelling the lyrics i’ve known by heart and soul.
there will be a final tour and the dates will be announced shortly.
i must not miss this.
yesterday i lay in bed and couldn’t sleep. for two hours i lay awake and was thinking. then an idea popped up in my mind.
after having seen so many cheesy movies about people hacking computers using 3d operating systems (“hackers”), nine displays that show just crap (“password swordfish”) or any other movie that aims to look like what it’s not, once i get the canon eos 5d mk ii my first project will be to shoot a short clip about the stuff i know: computers. (more…)
i still remember the first time i saw the dresden dolls perform as support for nine inch nails.
though i knew that trent reznors selections for support bands on his tours were picks way out of the ordinary (i may point out the digital hardcore band “atari teenage riot“) the dresden dolls, a band consisting solely of a drummer and a pianist, deeply impressed me – with this being some kind of an understatement. my copy of “the slip“, trent reznors new limited edition album, has finally arrived!
as a collector, i had to have the limited edition digipak and also posted the information to the tracking database which currently tracks more than 1000 of the 250000 discs.
thanks to handbrake i just converted the dvd containing the five rehearsal videos for my ipod touch to watch them on the go.
the digipak features an audio disc containing all the songs that can also be downloaded for free on the “the slip” website, and also has a booklet and a sticker set (i have sticker set 2).
